WELCOME TO THE TWENTY-SECOND ANNUAL NEW YORK BOOK SHOW! We are here tonight to recognize your accomplishments. At this gala of the book, selected from approximately 1,000 entries, once again on display are the past year's best among the best as judged by your peers.
We also made a few changes to the show format. We added Book Sales Catalog design as a new category and decided that to make things more exciting, each year will have a theme. This year's is the celebration of small and independent presses.
Your comments and suggestions are welcome as always. Please contact any of us if you would like to volunteer for next year's Book Show Committee, become a judge, or just help out.
On behalf of The Bookbinders' Guild of New York, we take this opportunity to thank all of you who made this event a success (designers, donors, editors, manufacturers, production people, publishers, suppliers, and volunteers who donated their time and expertise). Without you, our organization and this show would not exist.
Have a glass of wine and enjoy the show!
See you all in 2009 at the Twenty-Third Annual Book Show.

WELCOME TO THE TWENTY-SECOND ANNUAL NEW YORK BOOK SHOW! We are pleased to be returning to the Manhattan Center where everyone has the space and time to view the winning books, covers and jackets. The books you are viewing have been picked from more than 950 entries from publishers and printers throughout the United States. We encourage small press publishers to participate, and for the first time we have added seasonal sales catalogs.
Judging day is one of our most successful events when we focus on the book. Steve Bedney and Brian McGonigle led the committee to find knowledgeable and willing judges. All the judges listed in the back of this catalog took their job seriously - including taking a day off from work to come together and choose the winners. Every book was examined, and the judges explained why and how they chose each title. I thank all the judges for a wonderful job and for taking the time to consider every book submitted.
As you can see the Book Show is an enormous undertaking and a yearlong effort. I would like to give special thanks to Karen Fuchs, Adriana Coada, Tracy Cabanis, Sandra Bretnall, and John Sinclair for their dedication and time given to making the show a success.
As in the past, many donors helped sponsor tonight's gala event, and we are grateful for their monetary and/or service donations. We are especially thankful to Random House, who always gives the Bookbinders' Guild space to hold our book show meetings and judging day.
Once again, on behalf of the Bookbinders' Executive Board and the Book Show Committee, I would like to welcome you to our twenty-second annual celebration of the book. We hope you enjoy the show and always welcome your suggestions and participation for the show in 2009!!
